The first trailer for Aadujeevitham, Prithviraj Sukumaran‘s much-anticipated movie, came out on Friday. It captivated viewers with its beautiful images and moving plot. Based on a true story, Blessy will direct this movie version of Benyamin’s highly acclaimed book of the same name. It looks like it will be a powerful look at modern slavery.
In the three-minute trailer, we meet Najeeb, a migrant worker from Kerala who is played by Prithviraj Sukumaran. He leaves his family and town to find better opportunities. But his hopes for a better future quickly turn into a nightmare when he has to handle goats in the harsh Saudi Arabian desert. Najeeb’s fight for survival and freedom after being stripped of his freedom and honor are at the heart of this intense survival story.
A highlight of the trailer is Prithviraj Sukumaran’s physical metamorphosis. To play Najeeb, Prithviraj lost 24 kgs and exercised hard. His commitment to the part is clear in every frame, as he eloquently portrays a guy stuck in dreadful circumstances’ sorrow, strength, and optimism.
Aadujeevitham was shot in Algeria, Jordan, and India. The Covid-19 outbreak halted film production, among other issues. As the world went into lockdown to combat the virus, the actors and crew were stranded in Jordan’s Wadi Rum desert. The film crew spent three months without transportation to India. An Indian government-organized repatriation flight brought Prithviraj and the crew back to India from Amman in May 2020.
After filming, Prithviraj posted photos from the set and stated, “14 years, a thousand obstacles, a million challenges, three waves of a pandemic…one spectacular vision!” This comment shows the team’s perseverance in bringing this profound story to screen.
The trailer beautifully depicts the desert’s raw beauty and brutal realities. K.U. Mohanan’s stunning footage of the Saudi Arabian desert sets the stage for Najeeb’s terrifying voyage. The trailer’s brutal and realistic depiction of Najeeb’s incarceration is heartbreaking and thought-provoking, promising a film that will make an impact.
Aadujeevitham is more than a survival tale; it highlights the suffering of innumerable migrant workers who leave their homeland in quest of a better life but end up in contemporary slavery. Timely and important, the film illuminates the human cost of economic migration by exploring this dark and frequently neglected facet of contemporary society.
Apart from Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film features an impressive cast, including Jean-Louis in the role of Ibrahim, who joins Najeeb in his quest for freedom. The supporting cast is expected to deliver powerful performances that complement the film’s intense narrative.
Director Blessy, known for his ability to craft emotionally resonant stories, appears to have done justice to Benyamin’s novel, capturing its essence while bringing his unique vision to the screen. The film’s music, composed by A.R. Rahman, adds another layer of depth and emotion to the story, enhancing the overall cinematic experience.
Aadujeevitham is about human perseverance and survival. Themes include exploitation, perseverance, and the human search for freedom. Hope and human tenacity in overcoming seemingly insurmountable difficulties are also stressed in the film.
In addition to modern slavery, Aadujeevitham examines economic inequality and vulnerable population exploitation. The film’s depiction of Najeeb’s struggle highlights the systemic disparities that motivate people to risk their lives for better prospects elsewhere.
According to Deadline, filmmaker Blessy said, “I have to pinch myself frequently to remember that it is not just a film, it is the true story of someone’s life. A modest dream for a better life goes wrong. It’s sad that innocent people are often exploited. For nine years, I wanted to make this film since the story wasn’t in this catastrophe. I saw the fortitude of the human soul survive all difficulties and return to what Najeeb held holy via his wounded, addled mind.”
Benyamin’s novel, on which the film is based, depicts migrant workers’ hard lives with unflinching honesty. The book’s critical praise and popularity have raised film adaptation hopes. The trailer’s early reception suggests the film will meet or exceed these expectations.
Blessy’s film adaptation captures the novel’s spirit with powerful performances and stunning graphics. Both the underlying material and its interpretation help the film generate empathy and raise awareness about crucial societal issues.
The Aadujeevitham trailer promises a thrilling and moving film experience. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s transformation, Blessy’s direction, and K.U. Mohanan‘s cinematography create a visually and emotionally fascinating film.
Many are anxiously awaiting Aadujeevitham’s release to see Najeeb’s touching journey on television. The film is a call to action to fight modern slavery and economic exploitation and a monument to cinema’s power to express critical stories.
Aadujeevitham is more than a film—it’s a stunning story about the human condition and the human spirit’s resilience. When Netflix releases it, don’t miss this amazing film. Watch the trailer above to be touched by Najeeb’s extraordinary narrative of survival and hope.
